Welcome to Year 1!

Welcome to Year 1! I am so excited to teach your children this year. Year 1 can seem like a big jump from Foundation stage, so it is very important that learning is fun and purposeful. In the Autumn term, we will continue to learn in a similar way to Foundation Stage whilst beginning to sit and work at our tables.
This term we have lots of exciting things lined up! This half term, we are excited to be focusing on the topic, ‘Why is the ‘Great Fire’ important to London’s history? Next half term, we will introduce the topic, ‘Where in the world is that?’. We introduce topic with an exciting launch to hook the children from the off. We ask the children what they already know and what they would like to know before planning topics. This way the children are actively involved in their learning.
Phonics is a very important part of Year 1! If you have any questions on how to help your child at home with their phonics, please just ask.
I feel it is most important that your child feels safe and happy at school and I put my heart and soul into ensuring that your child feels as valued as they are in my class.
