We would just like to say how proud we are of our year 6s and how much of a privilege it was to spend the week away with them. Every single one of them did something new, challenged their fears and overcame some difficult situations (for some, this was packing their bags bag!) We encourage them to think about the final challenge they were set - to do one thing that they have done this week again in 2018. Even better if they can involve their family! We hope they have enjoyed the week and learnt a lot about themselves and each other. Enjoy the weekend and GET SOME SLEEP!

Once again, our year 6s who visit East Barnby this year will be taking part in and completing 'The John Muir Award'. The award is an environmental award scheme that encourages pupils and students (from upper primary school) to connect with, enjoy and care for wild places through a structured yet adaptable scheme. It was very cold and windy but the activity kept us warm. Only a few people got 'slightly lost' but not for very long! This was of course after the incredibly eventful 'packing activity' which felt like it took several hours to complete! All of this before the journey home where some of us even managed a cheeky nap! ThursdayPosted 16/11/2017 Wow! What a day. A wonderful experience canoeing down the River Esk and in to Whitby harbour. A huge amount of team work was required for the day to be a success. We saw a range of wild life from herons to seals and we even had the privilege of eating our lunch with 'Ant & Duck' (year 6 sense of humour!). We played games along our journey, won by the best canoe of the day - Miss KP and Mr Saunders. But it was their canoe which was the closest to capsizing! A warm shower and relaxing evening on the cards. Everyone has had a great week but can't wait to see everyone tomorrow. x WednesdayPosted 15/11/2017 Today brought a completely new set of challenges. After a brilliant night's sleep (which was very much needed) we set off on our adventures. One group conquered the ski slope while the other attacked an indoor Mount Everest! Lots of fears were overcome from being scared of the prospect of the full ski slope to making it to the top of the climbing wall. This afternoon, beck scrambling was wet! More fears were overcome with the task of making it through small spaces being the element which slowed a lot of us down. We needed more teamwork to make it across the beck but all managed fine - despite the odd whinge! Quote of the day 'It's not warm because it's cold', which was said with a serious face! TuesdayPosted 14/11/2017 Day 2...another exciting day had by all! We very quickly learnt that brakes are important on bikes and that aiming a bike at a tree might not be the best idea as they usually win! We had a wonderful day exploring the depths of Dalby Forest, from the mud tracks on our bikes to the woodlands and shelter building (although some of our shelters couldn't 'technically' be called shelters!). A relaxing evening in the games room followed and hopefully an earlier night for some! Still miss everyone loads but are having a great time! x MondayPosted 13/11/2017 First day down...lots of wins! From winning the battle with our bed sheets to winning the battle with dressing ourselves in our rather fetching red waterproofs! Group 1 conquered the challenges of rock climbing (including the re-occuring wedgies!), overcoming some fears and challenging themselves to go higher. Group 2 managed to negotiate the ski slope without too much falling over! The day finished around the camp fire with some (not so) scary stories! We miss everyone lots...can't wait for what tomorrow brings! x Get packing!Posted 10/11/2017 Only Saturday and Sunday to go until the big trip! Remember money and medicine needs to handed to teachers on Monday morning! Exciting times!! :-) Welcome to our East Barnby Page!Posted 10/11/2017 Please find on this page a kit list and programme which we will be following during our visit to East Barnby.
