News April to May 2017

May 2017 - Everyone LOVES Play Time!

We really enjoy our play times! From Syddall Soldiers to games organised by our PlayMakers and playing on the trim trail to football and other games...we have a brilliant time! We have clubs to attend as well as just chatting to our friends.

Everyone LOVES Play Time!

May 2017 - Judo Fun!

We were fortunate to have 2 days of Judo with Glynn. He worked with every class and showed us some great moves, making sure everyone had fun and gave it a go!

We loved it so much that we hope to have him back again next year to work with us again!

May 2017 - Garrison Community Football Event

We took 2 football teams to a community football event on Catterick Garrison organised by Catterick AWS Football Club. Our 'A' Team was made up of year 6s and our 'B' Team was made up of year 5s.

Some mixed results on a very hot afternoon...but great fun was had by all!

Well done to everyone. Click HERE for the results.

May 2017 - Year 6 SATs Week...

Looming tests did not deter our brave and resilient Year 6 children this week as they set out to show how determined they were in what turned out to be a very food based week at Michael Syddall. They arrived early for breakfast each day and enjoyed healthy morning snacks accompanied with a good old cup of tea or twelve! The real highlight of breakfast club had to be the promise of a delicious bacon butty on the final day of tests, which had been the topic of conversation all week, once again Mr Saunders did not let us down! When the tests were over the children cooled down with an ice lolly courtesy of Mrs Illingworth. The food theme did not end there however, as the children chose to relax the following day with tea and scones on the lawn. A good old fashioned British end to a tough but enjoyable week... or was it....they decided the best way would be to bake scones themselves.....as ever, they did not disappoint!

Well done Year 6, it was wonderful to see your smiling faces on the last day and you really have shown your super star qualities this week. We are extremely proud of each and every one of you!!!! For more pictures, see the year 6 page.

May 2017 - More Tennis Success...this time year 5/6!

Our year 5 and 6 team had a tough act to follow after the year 3 and 4 success the day before! We played in some very close games and had a wide range of results.

Our performances meant we came 1st in our group and made it through to the semi-final. Click HERE to see how we got on...

May 2017 - Year 3/4 Tennis Success!

Our year 3 and 4 team competed against some good teams and players in the first stage of the event, applying their skills well to each game to come out with some great results! Our fantastic results meant we came 1st in the league overall! We then had to play a play-off match against the team in 2nd place to see who would progress…click HERE for the full results!

April 2017 - Year 5/6 Cricket Tournament

Year 5 and 6 had a fantastic time at the cricket tournament which was held at Richmond Cricket Club. The sun shone brightly and so did the enthusiasm and dedication of each member of the team.

They really did do the school proud! Well done!

April 2017 - Swimming Gala

For the first time we took 2 teams, one year 3/4 and one year 5/6, to the level 2 swimming gala which was held at Richmond Pool. We organised our swimmers to take part in the boy's and girl's free style, back stroke, breast stroke and butterfly. There were also two relays at the end. There were some wonderful performances in the pool (particularly Katie's outstanding back stroke, winning her heat with the last stroke!) and fantastic behaviour, attitude and encouragement at pool side - even though we were a bit nervous before our races!

Click HERE to see where we finished overall.

Well done to everyone involved!

April 2017 - School Games Update

The spring term finished with our children taking part in a wonderful event as part of the School Games in York. The Change4Life festival saw children from across the county take part in a range of events to help build their skills and attitudes towards physical activity. See our March to April news for more info.

The summer term has already started with excitement. New clubs are on offer and in the first week of the term our children take part in swimming galas and a cricket competition closely followed by tennis and some football. We have started preparations for the local Quad Kids Athletics competitions and look forward to improving on our third place finishes from last year...fingers crossed!
