News January to February 2019

February 2019 - Year 5/6 Enterprise Afternoon

Our year 5/6 children held an enterprise afternoon as part of their £5 project...they have each been given £5 to turn in to as much profit as they can with the aim of raising £600 to pay for an artist to spend some time with them at the end of their South American topic. They did a great job and everyone had a wonderful afternoon.

February 2019 - Swimming Gala

Super proud of our swimming teams today at the gala held at Richmond Pool. Swimmers from years 3 to 6 represented school with exemplary behaviour, excellent sportsmanship and fabulous support for each other as well as other schools. We had some outstanding performances in the water with a host of first places across all ages and strokes including in the medley relays for both ages. Mrs Illingworth and Mrs Smith felt like they swam every length too! Thank you to all of the adults who were there to support and for the help with transport. Wonderful work from everyone.

February 2019 - Winter Football League - Finals Week

Simply stunning from our footballers! We entered finals week in 4th place in the league and had fixtures against the 3 teams above us. We started with a 2-2 draw against Richmond Methodist (having led twice!), then beat Brompton-on-Swale 2-0 and finally league leaders Bolton-on-Swale 2-0 meaning we were joint top with Bolton who had a game left to play. They won this 1-0 to win the league overall with us finishing in 2nd place and having the best set of results in the top 4 on the night. A superb example of what hard work, teamwork and determination will do...with some great goals and solid defending thrown in too! Well done to all teams...there were some fantastic games of football. You did us proud boys - well done!

February 2019 - Secondary School Maths...great!

We had a visit from Mr Carter, Head of Maths at Risedale School. He came to see how we teach maths across school and spent some time teaching a secondary school style maths lesson about sequences to our year 6s. We enjoyed having Mr Carter in school and hope to work with him again soon.

February 2019 - Safer Internet Day

As a school, we took part in Safer Internet Day 2019, looking at a range of topics and taking part in a number of activities across school to continue our learning around how to stay safe online. These included: making and taking part in quizzes, drawing what someone who is internet safe looks like, making internet safety ground rules and watching and discussing clips on internet safety. We will continue to focus on this and visit it again during our PSHE lessons.

February 2019 - Foundation Stage Stay and Play

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Foundation Stage Stay and Play sessions. We all had a wonderful time and it was lovely to have so many parents in school.

February 2019 - Winter Football League - Week 2

Amazing work from our footballers who took part in their final round of league matches as part of the Winter Football League. Three important games were played with us managing 2 wins and one draw without letting a goal in and scoring 8! Terrific effort again! Now we just need to see how other teams get on and wait to find out our league position. Click HERE for full results and scorers.

January 2019 - Winter Football League - Week 1

We took a team of year 5/6s to the first week of the Winter Football League held at ML Sports and Fitness in Richmond. The fixtures were tough, with games against Bolton-on-Swale, Richmond Methodist 'A', Brompton-on-Swale 'B' and Trinity Richmond 'B'. Every single member of our team was excellent, showing fight and determination as well as some outrageous skills and clinical finishing! Roll on next week. Click HERE for full results and scorers.

January 2019 - Tag Rugby Tournament

We took two very enthusiastic teams to a tag rugby tournament at Richmond School. After a couple of weeks of hard training, they were well prepared for what was going to come! The teams each played 8 very competitive matches and did themselves and the school proud, showing great determination and resilience when things got tough. Team 1 won 5, drew 2 and lost 1 of their matches and team 2 won 2, drew 2 and lost 4 of theirs. Some wonderful performances and even better attitudes! Well done everyone. January 2019 - Cookery Clubs serves up a treat!

Some pictures from the first cookery club of the year...it smelt delicious! Well done everyone. We are looking forward to the menu for next week!

January 2019 - Say 'Hello' to our Eco-Committee!Eco-committeeEco-committee

Our newly formed eco-committee have started their work evaluating our current strengths and areas for development by looking at the eco-schools 'environmental review' - a questionnaire based around 10 areas with an eco focus. They will then choose 3 areas to develop and improve and set to work, gaining the help of the rest of school and hopefully our school community in the process! Keep an eye out for updates and requests for help!

January 2019 - Year 5/6 Topic Launch

Our year 5/6 children finished the final part of their topic launch by presenting the projects which they had been working on over Christmas.

The projects and presentations were superb and all children had worked really hard, presenting what they had found about South America with some stunning props!

Well done!

January 2019 - Year 3/4 Topic Launch

For their topic launch, ‘Where in the World?’, the children researched the seven continents in groups, focusing on the population, religion, weather, main attractions and any other interesting facts they could find. They showed fantastic Charlie Communication, Olly Organisation and Izzy Initiative skills when researching and communicating their facts.

After, they had to create a poster using the information they found out. They organised their own work and made it stand out! Well done everyone!

Also, for their homework over the Christmas period, they had to research and find out information about any country in Europe. The children produced some fantastic homework which we wanted to share with you. Thank you to all parents and carers for helping with the homework.

January 2019 - Year 1/2 Topic Launch

As part of the topic 'Can you compare life with and without technology?', Year 1 and 2 had their topic launch to get them thinking of what life really was like without phones, Xboxes and worst of all, without the internet! The children all had amazing questions about what life used to be like and Mrs Wright answered all of these questions based on her own experiences. She even brought in some old examples of what technology used to look like and showed the children old mobile phones, old calculators and even old records. The children then created some wonderful observational drawings and compared old and new technologies. A huge thank you to Mrs Wright for coming in - the children loved it!

January 2019 - School Games Update

We have another busy half term of School Games activity in store...we have the level 2 tag rugby competition, indoor football league, year 1/2 gymnastics finals and the swimming galas! We love being active! Keep up to date with how we get on via the website or our Facebook page.
