News June to July 2017

July 2017 - Year 6 Leavers BBQ

Our Year 6 children celebrated the end of their time at Michael Syddall with a fantastic BBQ evening on our school field. They showed off their rounders and football skills, bounced high into the sky on the bouncy castle and demonstrated their celebrity status on the red carpet. A big thank you to all the family and friends who were able to come along, the MSSA for organising and helping out and last but no means least - our very own super chef - Mr Saunders who cooked the food to perfection!

July 2017 - MSSA Summer Event

It was a beautiful summer's evening for our MSSA Summer Event. There was face painting, tattoos, tea and cakes, tombolas, stalls and more. We even got to throw wet sponges at Mr Saunders and Miss Wright...great fun!

Thank you to everyone who was involved.

July 2017 - Celebration Picnic Day

Our field became our school dining hall for our celebration picnic day. Our children invited their families to come and have lunch on the field with enough sausage rolls and packets of crisps to feed an army!

Thank you to everyone who attended, it was lovely to see our children enjoying lunch with their families.

July 2017 - From Farm to Fork!

Foundation Stage have been on a visit to Tesco where we took part in the Farm to Fork Trail. We learnt about where our food comes from, the ingredients used to make bread and which foods are healthy/ unhealthy. We were very lucky to make our own bread which tasted delicious! We even made some for Mr Saunders and Mrs McHarg!

We also tasted different cheeses and even saw a fish being chopped in half, which we all found very funny!

We had a fantastic time at Tesco and want to say a big thank you to Tesco, Catterick Garrison, for having us!

July 2017 - Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 Sports Day

Our Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 children took part in their sports day. There was lots of running, jumping and throwing going on throughout the morning, earning points for their school team. Our year 5s organised and ran the events brilliantly and everyone involved, from competitors to our 'games makers', had a wonderful day and made the whole school incredibly proud.

Congratulations to 'Team Syddall' who won for the second year running!

1st - Syddall (1276 points)

2nd - Booth (1238 points)

3rd - Lindsey (1172 points)

4th - Scott (1152 points)

July 2017 - Fun Run!

All, yes ALL, of our Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 children went to Richmond School to compete against other schools in a fun run. Each year group had a boy and a girl race with all of our children also taking part in some multi-skill activities as well! We had some excellent runners with several of our children finishing in the top 3 in their races out of about 100 children.

Thank you to all of our helpers who made sure we could get there and back safely! Well done everyone.

July 2017 - FS and Key Stage 1 Bike Day

On a very wet day, our Foundation Stage and Key stage 1 took part in their bike day on the school playground. Lots of exciting bike exercises were organised and even when we weren't outside improving our cycling skills, we were inside carrying out even more bike activities!

Well done to everyone!

July 2017 - School Games Mark SILVER

Once again we have been awarded a silver school games mark to celebrate our dedication towards school sport.

We have a gold award in our sight and only narrowly missed out this year...we know are in a great position to achieve this next academic year.

Thank you for your support.

July 2017 - Duck Race

Everyone had been training their ducks incredibly hard in preparation for the annual duck race! Despite there being not a lot of water in the beck, they managed to make their way to the finish line!

Thank you to our MSSA for organising the event and to everyone who supported it.

July 2017 - Key Stage 2 Bike Day

Key Stage 2 managed to dodge the rain (just about) for their bike day. They took part in a range of bike handling activities including going over ramps, the slalom and going under the limbo pole! We then finished off on the field with some races which was great fun but incredibly difficult on the legs!

Well done to everyone!

July 2017 - A Piece of Cake!

Six of our Year 6 pupils successfully organised and held a bake sale in the school playground after school and completed another one of their Primary Edge challenges. They have worked really well together over the past few weeks and showed today just how organised they all are. The 'Cake Bake' was a huge success and they made a grand total of £62.34.  Thank you to all the parents who helped their children make the cakes and to everyone who supported them. The girls have donated the money they made to Fin's fundraiser and couldn't wait to tell Mrs Illingworth the good news. A big well done to all the children who organised and ran the sale, an amazing achievement!!

June 2017 - PE Sport Premium Awards

We took 3 representatives from Key Stage 2 to the Yorkshire PE Premium Awards in Harrogate. It was a very exciting afternoon, with a free lunch and the opportunity to meet a former Olympic gymnast - Craig Heap! Our school won the award for Whole School Improvement for the whole of North Yorkshire! We are all so proud and hope that this is the start of more improvements in our school!

June 2017 - Year 5/6 trip to ML Sports and Fitness

Our year 5/6 classes went to ML Sports and Fitness in Richmond to take part in a day of physical activity, taking part in a range of classes and exercises they might experience in a gym. This included a gym machine circuit, a spinning class, a boxercise/core fitness circuit and a functional fitness class. They also put their sports leadership skills in to action from the PlayMaker Award and completed a sport/fitness leaders workshop. This resulted in them working in groups to create and run activities for their classmates. A wonderful (yet tiring) day had by all! Well done!

June 2017 - FS Trip to Shildon Railway Museum

Our Foundation Stage classes had a very exciting first trip away from school! They went to Shildon Railway Museum as part of their work and thoroughly enjoyed it with several comments being made about how brilliantly behaved and polite they all were!

Have a look at the Foundation Stage page for more information!

Well done to all...we are proud of you!

June 2017 - Year 5 Sponsored Walk

Our Year 5 class took on the challenge of completing a sponsored walk to raise much needed funds for their trip to East Barnby at the start of year 6. The walk started at school and went through Brompton-on-Swale, across fields and bridleways all the way to The Station at Richmond where we had an ice-cream! We then walked back along the coast-to-coast route, round the back of Colburn and back to Catterick unbelievable 14 MILES in total! Thank you to our parents who came with us as well as Mrs Cookson and Mrs Illingworth who completed the walk as well! A superb achievement by all!

June 2017 - Cycle Training Fun!

Our school hosted some cycle training for teachers from other schools which was run by Phil Bateman, GB Olympian from the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games. He demonstrated some very fun and exciting activities and we loved that we were able to go quickly! We are looking forward to using these at our bike days and for new clubs and activities next year!

June 2017 - North Yorkshire Girls' Cricket Finals

We took 8 very excited year 5 and 6 girls to the North Yorkshire cricket finals at Knaresborough Cricket Club. A wonderful day was had by all despite recording only one victory. We came close in a couple of other games but unfortunately just missed out.  A huge well done to everyone involved!
