February 2017 - Year 5/6 complete PlayMaker Award

All of our year 5/6 children spent 3 days over the first half of spring term completing the PlayMaker Award, a leadership program from Sports Leaders UK. They spent time looking at all of the different elements of a games session, from talking about the participants to the area the game is played in, how important their communication is and the equipment they need. They took part in games and activities to see the importance of all of these elements. They then planned a session using what they had learnt. Wonderful teamwork and enjoyment had by all...we are now looking forward to getting started with organising some games, helping at events or using the skills to improve our own games.

February 2017 - Maths Competition Success

We took 4 of our year 5 children to a maths competition held at SFX Secondary School in Richmond. Children from year 5 voted for the team to represent both the class and the school at the event. Following some incredibly challenging problem solving, fantastic use of calculation methods and simply outstanding teamwork and logical thinking, we finished in an amazing 2nd place! Well done to everyone involved and thank you to the staff and students at SFX for making us so welcome and for running an excellent event!

February 2017 - Eco School Fun!

Eco Club members have been busy tackling their action plan over the last few weeks and work is well underway on improving our outside environment. This has meant everyone getting their hands (and feet) dirty but the children have so far managed to plant the trees donated by the Woodland Trust, smarten up and plant the tractor-tyre planters and begin weeding the flower beds.

Watch this space for updates...

February 2017 - Foundation Stage Open Afternoon

Thank you to all parents who were able to attend the open afternoon, we hope you had a wonderful time looking through your child's work and contributing to their learning journey.

We look forward to hosting another open afternoon at the end of next half term.

Have a lovely half term and don't forget to let us know what you get up to!

Winter Football LeagueWinter Football LeagueJanuary 2017 - Winter Football League - Week 3

We went in to our final 2 games of the winter football league in a determined mood. Serious tactical discussions took place before the games with a clear plan in mind! Some wonderful work resulted in some very positive results.

Click HERE to see how we did...

Many thanks to Mike Layfield for organising the league and ML Sports and Fitness on Galowfields Trading Estate in Richmond for hosting it.

January 2017 - Year 2 Visit St Anne's

As part of our RE topic of 'Belonging', Year 2 went to church to find out about baptisms and symbols. We were symbol detectives and went on a hunt around the church to find some important Christian symbols and we found out why they are important. We then watched a baptism and found out why this is so important in 'belonging to the church' for Christians. We had a wonderful time and would like to thank all of the volunteers and Rev. Lindsay for all of their help in delivering an amazing session.

January 2017 - Cookery Club Kicks Off!

Our cookery club started up again with a new group of budding 'Master Chefs' ready and raring to go! On the menu for week 1 - homemade burgers with a variety of healthy toppings as well as sweet potato chips...delicious!

None of the staff that were still in school needed an evening meal when they got home that night!

January 2017 - Year 5/6 Topic Launch UPDATE!

Mrs Moss managed to hunt down some contact details for our focus artist - Gustavo Ortiz. An email was sent explainig to him what our children had been doing and...HE REPLIED! We were truely inspired by his response and hope to be able to contact other people with our work in future topics! Here is what he said...

'I am so flattered that you choose my pieces to work in your class! They look amazing, I think your students did a great job recreating the visual language that I have developed, also capturing the Color palette that I usually work with. It's a great experience to see my work recreated in this way, it's like seen somebody else speaking in my own voice.

Thanks for taking the time to send me the photos, and you can congratulate your students for a job well done, and also congratulations to you for inspiring your students to reach such great quality of work!
Kind regards
Gustavo Ortiz '

January 2017 - Year 5/6 Topic Launch

Year 5 and 6 wasted no time in beginning their South American topic this week and spent the day recreating Latin American inspired work by Argentinian born artist Gustavo Ortiz. They worked in small groups and were able to collaboratively plan, organise and create some wonderful recreations of the originals which are now proudly hung in our Y5/6 art gallery.

January 2017 - Foundation Stage Art

Foundation Stage have had a fantastic first week back where we have been learning all about colour mixing. We have learnt about the primary and secondary colours and explored what happens when we mix them. We have also learnt about the artist 'Mondrian' who used the primary colours in his artwork. So we decided to become artists for the afternoon, look at our AMAZING artwork!

January 2017 - School Games Update

As another term begins, we have already started to prepare for what lies ahead! Our very busy extra curricular programme has been organised...sign up for our new tag rugby club which will be led by Catterick Crusaders Rugby League Club. The gymnastics teams will continue to prepare for their competition in March and the same month also sees the ever popular cross country event which will be held at Catterick Racecourse.

Our year 5/6 children are part way through their Play Maker Award already, part of the Sports Leaders UK organisation and the kick start to successful leadership.

Keep an eye out for more news!

- The impact of collective worship on the school community...GOOD

- The effectiveness of Religious Education...GOOD

- The effectiveness of leadership and management of the school as a church school...OUTSTANDING
