July 2016 - Power Down Pete

We had a visit from Power Down Pete who helped to raise our awareness of energy, wasting energy and how to make changes to maximise the energy available and save money!

 

We had a great day taking part in an assembly and all sorts of games and activities.

July 2016 - Leavers' BBQ

We had a fantastic evening on our school field for our leavers' BBQ. We couldn't have chosen better weather!

July 2016 - Street Dance Performances

We had 2 wonderful performances from the children who attend our weekly Street Dance Club with Caroline. They had obviously been working very hard to improve their skills for the performance and we were amazed by what they showed us! 

 

Street Dance will continue on a Monday night in the autumn term with one session for Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 and another session for Key Stage 2. Please come and join in!

 

Thank you to Caroline for all her hard work with our dancers this year.

July 2016 - Heritage Educational Programme

Our year 3 class went to Leeming Bar Train Station to take part in the Heritage Educational Programme. The visit involved a ride on the Wensleydale Railway to Scruton and spending some time meeting some characters based on real individuals who lived or worked near Scruton or who travelled on the railway during the First World War. A great day had by all!

July 2016 - Road Safety Competition Winners

6 competition winners from across the school were special guests of the A1L2B team and went to see their road safety posters doing their job on the footbridge over the A1 between Catterick Bridge and Colburn. The posters look fantastic as real signs and we even found out some information about the archaeological discoveries about the area.

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the School Games Mark Silver Award for recognition of our commitment to sporting competition and participation during the school year 2015/16.

 

We will endeavour to provide further opportunities for our children next year to achieve the very rare Gold Award!

July 2016 - Girls Football - North Yorkshire Finals

We took part in the North Yorkshire School Games football finals in York on Sunday 3rd July. It was a wonderful day, a great event and our team members played some truly heroic parts in our day. Some mixed results against some outstanding teams and players saw us finish in joint 3rd place out of 7 on the day (410 across the county throughout the competition!) A MAGNIFICENT ACHIEVEMENT!! June 2016 - Key Stage 2 Sports Day

Our Key Stage 2 sports day was another wonderfully exciting and eventful day. All children took part in 3 field events in the morning, earning points for their team. The scores were incredibly close as we started the track events in the afternoon, with just 2 points separating the 4 teams! Some wonderful racing and very competitive athletes saw the scores remain close until the final race...the 600m! In the end, 'Team Lindsey' came from behind to finish the day as winners. Well done to everyone and thank you for the support.

June 2016 - Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 Sports Day

Our Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 children took part in their sports day on a beautiful day! There was lots of running, jumping and throwing going on throughout the morning, earning points for their school team. Our year 6s organised and ran the events brilliantly and everyone involved, from competitors to our 'games makers', had a wonderful day and made the whole school incredibly proud.

Congratulations to 'Team Syddall' who won with 857 points!

June 2016 - Year 6 Fundraiser

Our year 6 children planned, organised and ran a fundraising afternoon to help contribute towards the cost of their bus for their up-coming trip to East Barnby. They managed to raise a wonderful £140! The MSSA have matched this amount meaning £280 has been raised for the cost of the bus!

 

Thank you to the whole school for having a go on the games and supporting the year 6s. A special thanks to the year 6 parents who provided some wonderful cakes and prizes for the afternoon!

June 2016 - The Duck Race

Our annual MSSA duck race was another fantastic event in the village...we even had a special guest appearance from BBC weatherman Paul Mooney. Thank you to everyone for your support. 

June 2016 - Quad Kids Athletics Competition...Catterick Garrison Stadium

We took a team of year 1/2s, a team of year 3/4s and a team of year 5/6s to the Quad Kids competition at Catterick Garrison Stadium. Each team had 6 boys and 6 girls in and they all competed in a sprint, long distance, standing long jump and a throw to score points for our team. The teams who finished in first and second place qualified for the School Games Level 3 round of the competition.

 

Massive congratulations go to our year 1/2 team who finished 3rd out of 12 teams and our year 3/4 team who also finished 3rd out of 12. A wonderful achievement! 

June 2016 - Key Stage 2 Bike Day

Key Stage 2 had their annual Bike Day. Lots more bikes were brought into school with fun activities throughout the day. Not even the weather stopped us! We even managed to celebrate the Queen's birthday too! More snacks were provided by the MSSA to help get us through our activities...thank you.

June 2016 - School Games update and National School Sport Week

We are preparing for our school sport week which runs from 20th - 24th June. This week will include:

FS/KS1 sports day on Tuesday 21st June - morning only - parents are welcome to come and watch.

Key Stage 2 sports day will be all day on Wednesday 22nd June - parents are welcome to come for the afternoon to watch.

We are also competing in the level 2 Quad Kids athletics on Thursday 16th June at Catterick Garrison Athletics Stadium (keep an eye out for results!) and are having an Army Assault Course on Friday 24th June...more information to follow!

 

June 2016 - Friendly football matches v Hipswell

We created 4 football teams from a combination of boys and girls from years 4, 5 and 6 and played some friendly matches against Hipswell. It was a wonderful afternoon with some excellent teamwork, fantastic attitudes and great goals scored. A super effort...well done to everyone involved and thank you to Hipswell for playing against us.

June 2016 NSPCC Speak Out Stay Safe Workshop and Assembly

We had a visit from the NSPCC Speak Out Stay Safe programme who came to do an assembly and a workshop to make sure we have the knowledge and understanding of how to stay safe from abuse.

The year 5 and 6 classes then completed a workshop, looking at issues in further detail. 

Thank you to the NSPCC for the work you have done with us!

June 2016 - FS and Key Stage 1 Bike Day

Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 brought their bikes into school for their annual bike day. Fun bike activities were organised and we even had a snack and a drink courtesy of the MSSA...thank you very much! Well done to all involved.
