News March to May 2016

May 2016 - Box2bFit

We had another wonderful day with Dave from Box2bFit learning about health and well being in a different context and being the best we can be! Each class had time to work on skipping skills - which some of us had mastered from Dave's last visit - before we moved on to a boxing work out. Hopefully, we will be able to use this in our PE lessons...watch this space!

May 2016 - Year 3 and 4 Open Afternoon

Year 3 and 4 invited parents to come into school and get involved with their learning. This week, we were learning about Roman chariots, how they were built and how they were used for entertainment. The children had to design, create and evaluate their own Roman chariot. Everyone's' chariots looked absolutely AMAZING and we all had a brilliant (messy) afternoon!

The Year 4's tweeted...
'I had a smashing afternoon because everyone had fun and put their own personal spin on their chariot'. (Tilly)
'Everyone designed an amazing chariot and I loved that my parents were there to help me!' (Lottie)
'I had the best day ever as our parents came to join in with the fun!' (Deighton)
'An awesome afternoon!' (Thomas)

Thank you to all the parents who came and joined in! We look forward to our next open afternoon...

May 2016 - French Cafe

We spent a whole day learning about a wide range of things to do with France. The day finished with a brilliant French Cafe which was expertly ran by our year 6s. Trés Bien!

May 2016 - Year 2 Open Afternoon

Thank you so much to our amazing parents for coming into our class to help us build our model trains. We all had a great time and our trains look fantastic! Please visit our class page in the near future to see our finished models.

You are all super stars!

May 2016 - Year 1 Open Afternoon

On Wednesday 17th May, our families came into school to join in with Design & Technology projects.  We have been learning about George Stephenson in our topic work and so we decided to make our very own seam trains. I think our mums, dads, grans and grandads had even more fun than we did!

May 2016 - Bikeability

We ran our first Bikeability course of the year for 9 year 6 children. The course involves learning to ride bikes safely on public roads, the risks associated and how to be a responsible member of the community when out and about on your bike. It takes place over 2 days and is ran by trained cycling instructors from North Yorkshire County Council. The best news is...no-one has fallen off (yet!).

May 2016 - New Climbing Equipment!

The school is incredibly excited to announce that we were able to secure £10,000 of funding through The National Lottery to spend on some wonderful new climbing equipment for the playground. As well as this, the school has added £3000 of it's PE and School Sport Premium money meaning more equipment could be purchased to provide challenging play opportunities for all children. It is also a wonderful place to chat to friends and play alongside each other!

May 2016 - Who can be the best Roman Gladiator?

As part of our Roman topic, Years 3 and 4 have been learning about Roman Gladiators. Our question of the week was 'Who can be the best Gladiator?' The challenge was to design, create and evaluate Gladiator outfits to survive our GRUELING trim trail assault course! Here are some of the children's thoughts...

'I enjoyed learning about Gladiators and taking part in the challenge!' Alicia

'I enjoyed being a Gladiator for my team and surviving the obstacle course!' Drisha

'My favourite part was creating a Gladiator outfit and cheering on my Champion!' Chelsea

We had an amazing afternoon and found out who the real Champion is...Miss Wright!

April 2016 - Tag Rugby TournamentTag Rugby TeamTag Rugby Team

A wonderful afternoon's rugby was played at Wensleydale School. Our hard working year 6 team came away with 3rd place against some very tough competition!

Throughout the afternoon, our children conducted themselves in such a professional manner. They worked incredibly well as a team, even when things weren’t going our way. This resilience aided the team to be successful. All the players represented their school with pride and respected fellow players and officials. This was pointed out by many people during the afternoon.

We would like to thank the parents who helped transport the children and stayed the afternoon to help support the children.

April 2016 - Key Stage 1 Topic Launch - Shildon Railway Museum

Our Year 1 and 2 Children had a wonderful day launching their topic for the summer term at Shildon Railway Museum. Have a look at some of their pictures from the day.

Mrs Smith and Mrs Conely look wonderful in their hats!

April 2016 - School Games UpdateSchool GamesSchool Games

We are now entering a busy period for School Games events and competitions. We are looking forward to the girls football level 3 finals which will be held at York at the start of July. Level 3 equates to county level competition...a great achievement! Keep an eye out for how they get on! We are also looking forward to the rugby and the athletics among other things!

March 2016 - Skip2bFit Day - Pupils v TeachersSkip2bFitSkip2bFit

To finish off a wonderful days skipping, we had a whole school assembly where the Year 6 children who had completed the most skips during their session had a skip off against the teachers. Mr Price and Mrs Illingworth represented the teachers and Ella and Cole the pupils. Mrs Illingworth very quickly showed her competitive streak but Ella reigned champion supreme!! Better luck next time Mrs Illingworth.
