News September to October 2017

October 2017 - Digital Buddies

Year 5 took their Digital Buddy roles very seriously when introducing our Foundation Stage children to the school ICT suite. They taught them how to log on, create and colour images on Purple Mash and some even had an R.E lesson about Hanukkah.

October 2017 - Crucial Crew

Our Year 6 children went to 'Crucial Crew' at RAF Leeming. The afternoon involved 9 10 minute workshops learning about safety, risks and what to do in an emergency. We spent time with North Yorkshire Police, The Fire & Rescue Service, NYCC Road Safety, The Healthy Child Team and many more. We even got to sample what it was like to make a real 999 call! Thank you to the organisers and well done to our year 6s - wonderful work!

October 2017 - Peer Reading

Foundation and Year 5 joined forces for 'Peer Reading', where the Year 5's listened to and read with the Foundation Stage. The children loved reading and listening to stories. They can't wait for next time!

October 2017 - Girls Football Tournament

Our girls continued the sporting theme for this half term, taking part in their football tournament at Richmond School on a very windy afternoon! Full of enthusiasm and energy, the team played their 3 group games, remarkably drawing each one 0-0! We were definitely hard to beat but luck was not on our side in front of goal despite dominating for large parts of our matches. We finished 3rd in our group and played a play-off game against Bolton-on-Swale. The score? You guessed it...0-0!! Well done to everyone involved; effort, attitude, teamwork could not be faulted. We are now desperate for more matches! Click HERE to see the results.

October 2017 - Netball Tournament

Our streak of sporting competitions continued with the netball competition. We took a team of enthusiastic key stage 2 children to Richmond School to compete against other local schools. Our much improved sporting skills, teamwork, self-belief and determination really shone through during the afternoon. The team came top of their group after some thrilling victories and played Richmond Methodist 'A' team in the semi-final. This game finished a draw so the team who went through to the final was determined by goal difference from the group games...we had +12 and they had +9 meaning we went through to the final. A closely contested match between us and Bolton-on-Swale finished 1-1 meaning we finished joint 1st and qualify for the level 2 round of the competition in January. Well done to everyone!

October 2017 - Year 3/4 Football Tournament

Our year 3 and 4 football teams took part in their competition at Richmond School. We took 2 teams full of energetic and enthusiastic players who worked well together to represent the school. Our 'orange' team played in some tough games against tricky opponents but did not let things get the better of them, showing great determination to win their last match. Our 'black and red' team won their 3 group games, quarter final AND semi-final to make it to the final to play against Brompton-on-Swale who were also unbeaten all afternoon. Despite going a goal behind early in the second half, the team showed outstanding perseverance and self belief to equalise (thanks to Alfie's thunderbolt) and then go on to get a winner (thanks to Caiden not giving up) meaning WE WON THE CUP. Well done to both of our teams and all our opponents.

October 2017 - Year 5/6 Architect Visit

As part of The National Trust's architectural design a folly competition, Year 5 and 6 were lucky enough to receive a visit from architect Christine Thornley in association with North Yorkshire Society of Architects. The children enjoyed a fun packed morning where they learned all about what an architect actually does, drawing to scale and how to plan and design their own folly. Thank you to Christine for her time! The children are now looking forward to completing and submitting their entries.

September 2017 - Year 5/6 Football Tournament

We took 2 teams of footballers to Richmond School for the first football tournament of the new school year. Some tight matches and late drama meant the afternoon was full of excitement! Well done to our competitors who ensured that every game was tough, with both of our teams having to work well together to find ways to win matches. Special mentions go to Declan for his finishing, Fin for his wonder goal, Caiden for his hat-trick and Riley for his hard work in setting up several of his teams goals. Cracking effort all round!

September 2017 - Funding Secured

We are delighted to announce the securing of funding from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund for £19,565 which will pay for a MUGA (multi-use games area) and playground markings on our playground. The MUGA will be used during term and holiday time to ensure activity can take place regardless of if the children are at school or not.

September 2017 - Harvest Festival

Our Collective Worship Team, along with the help of Reverend Lindsay, organised our Harvest Festival. We had performances, plays and prayers with the occasional harvest hymn as well. Thank you to everyone for your kind donations which will go to the Storehouse Foodbank in Richmond.

September 2017 - Key Stage 1 Multi-Skills Festival

We took all of our key stage 1 children to a multi-skills festival held at Richmond School. They took part in a wide range of running, throwing and jumping games as well as others which used a whole range of skills. As always, behaviour was impeccable, effort and attitude stood out and fun was had by all. Well done everyone.
