September to October 2019

October 2019 - Netball Competition

Well done to our netball teams who represented the school superbly at the competition. We had some great results against some strong opposition. One of our teams narrowly missed out on the semi-finals (by just 1 point!). Great work from everyone involved.

October 2019 - Year 6 Sponsored Walk

What a wonderful day with our year 6s on their sponsored walk to raise money for East Barnby. From the village, out the back of Brompton-on-Swale, through Easby to Richmond and back along the Coast to Coast route. A massive achievement and a huge walk. We only managed to get 3 shoes stuck in the mud on the way back! Thank you to the parents who joined us and to everyone who has sponsored children.

October 2019 - Cycling Success

A huge well done to our cyclists who represented us superbly in the inter-school competition held at our school. We had visitors from all over North Yorkshire including Selby, Harrogate, Skipton, Hawes and Richmond with over 60 cyclists competing throughout the day. An extra well done to Liam who came 3rd overall in the 'individual pursuit' and as a school we finished in 3rd place too. Great work everyone.

October 2019 - STEM Club

STEM Club was fantastic! We finished our bridges and then tested them out, Each bridge held 6kg which was the maximum we decided to go for. We then upped the test a bit and tested our STEM skills by seeing if our bridges would hold one of our 'STEM Experts'. We kept it a fair test throughout and nearly all of the bridges survived!

October 2019 - Year 5/6 football

Wow...our year 5/6 football team were simply outstanding in their tournament. They made it out of a tough group, winning 2 and drawing one of their games. They then played a very tight semi-final against Richmond Methodist and WON 1-0! An even closer final saw the scores level at 0-0 after full time with Croft and again at the end of extra time so it went to penalties! It went down to the last penalty which was saved meaning WE WON the competition and did so without letting a goal in. Teamwork, self-belief, determination and passion shone through and in the end, the victory was fully deserved. Mr Saunders is going for a lie down! Sensational!

October 2019 - Year 3/4 football

Great work from our year 3/4 footballers who took part in the tournament held at our school. A win, 2 draws and a defeat meant a respectable 3rd place finish. Some great goals were scored and we had fantastic determination and teamwork throughout. Well done team!

October 2019 - Cross Country

Wonderful work from our cross country runners. We had numerous excellent finishes - a couple of 4ths, 6ths, 7ths, 8ths and 9ths across the ages as well as a mix of boys and girls. Great determination and self-belief shown by everyone and excellent teamwork to encourage and support each other. Fingers crossed for when the final results come out!

October 2019 - Year 6 Gardeners

Our year 6s were adding to our new garden area, planting flowers and bulbs ready for the to reappear again in the Spring. They did a great job weeding the vegetable patches and sorting out our seating area. Great work!

September 2019 - Rugby Success

A huge well done to 2 of our super keen sports stars of the future, Katie and Callum, who play rugby for Catterick Crusaders. 'Clubman' of the year for Callum and 'Player's Player of the Year' for Katie. Excellent work - we are very proud of them both.

September 2019 - Eco Team...

In eco club, we used our plans for our bug hotel to inform our actual making! We put all of the heavy objects on the bottom to ground it and then we added sticks, logs, pine cones and other outdoor materials to fill in the other tiers. The children thoroughly enjoyed creating their bug hotel and we even had our first visitor (a money spider) joining us on opening night! Well done everyone, great teamwork skills!

September 2019 - Fun with Food

'Fun with Food' - our latest addition to Friday's golden time - has proved a great success again this week. Tasty treats all round!

September 2019 - Year 6 Maths of the Day

Year 6 have been hard at work with some Maths of the Day , using their arithmetic skills to answer questions placed around the school site as well as their orienteering and teamwork skills! Great job!

September 2019 - STEM Club 'Chocolate Welding!'

This week, STEM club have been continuing to look at structures. We established that a single piece of chocolate did not have the same structural support as the 'welded' chocolate - even though Mr Saunders' welding skills weren't great! Hopefully our bridge designs will turn out better over the next few weeks!

September 2019 - Key Stage 1 Multi-Skills Festival

Our year 1 and 2 classes had a wonderful morning at the multi-skills festival at Richmond School. Lots of running, jumping and throwing was accompanied by superb behaviour and manners. Well done to everyone.

September 2019 - Cycling Day

We have had an excellent day cycling with Phil Bateman. Our cyclists have worked their way through 4 activities (a time trial, sprint, road race and endurance race) and have been fantastic throughout the day. Keep an eye out for our top 8 cyclists from these events who will represent the school in October. Well done to everyone.

September 2019 - STEM Spaghetti Structures!

We had a great time at STEM club looking at structures using spaghetti and marshmallows. Merits were on offer for the tallest structure, any that could hold Motty and to any group who didn't 'accidentally' eat any of their marshmallows! It was also interesting to discover that one STEM clubber has a regular spaghetti related issue with the line, 'Spaghetti always gets stuck to my elbow!' Well done to everyone.

September 2019 - Outside Developments!

More work went in to our outdoor space over the summer holidays with the addition of a seated area, more flower beds and bark around the vegetable patches to make them easier to get to. A giant pumpkin even appeared! Watch this space for further developments!

September 2019 - Aldi Kits for schools - we need your help!

We need your help! Aldi's kit for schools promotion is giving 20 primary schools the chance to win £20,000 to kick-start a healthy legacy for their school. What's more, every school who enters by completing their kit for schools poster will also receive an exclusive school sports kit! A sticker is given for every £30 spent...please collect, ask friends and family to do the same (no matter whether they are local or not!) and ask for a cheeky extra at the till!

September 2019 - Topic Launch Year 5/6

Our year 5/6 classes have been using wood work skills they didn't even know they had this week to launch their 'Mayan Civilisation' topic. Their temples are looking amazing!

September 2019 - Year 3/4 Topic Launch

Our year 3 and 4 children have had a wonderful week launching their topic 'Did the Flintstones really exist?' by looking at all things Stone Age and creating their own Stone Age prints.

September 2019 - Year 1/2 Topic Launch

Our year 1 and 2 children have had a great time as part of the launch for their topic 'Why are we called the United Kingdom?' Great work!

September 2019 - School Games

Following our huge success at the School Games Finals in the summer, we are busy preparing for another exciting term of School Games activities. The first half term sees several events taking place including football and netball as well as preparing for sportshall athletics next half term. Our key stage 1 children will be attending a multi-skills festival and as always, we have a very busy extra curricular programme. Please ensure your child is signed up to all that they would like to do and if you have any suggestions for clubs or events we could run in the future, please contact the school office or Mr Saunders.

September 2019 - WELCOME BACK!
